This is a short guide to configuring the Thunderbird mail client for use with your Jive Networks mail hosting account.
Thunderbird is a free email application that’s easy to set up and customise. Thunderbird runs on most desktop or laptop computers, including Windows and Mac devices.
If you don't already have Thunderbird installed you are able to download it for free from www.thunderbird.net.
This guide assumes that you have already installed Thunderbird following the instructions from thunderbird.net.
The first time you open Thunderbird it will ask if you would like to configure an email account. If you see the following screen when opening Thunderbird, click "Skip this and use my existing email". If not, see section the next section.
If you weren't greeted with the "Welcome to Thunderbird" screen displayed above, don't worry. Find the menu icon, and select "Options" > "Account Settings", as shown below.
You should now be met with the following screen which prompts you for your account details. Enter the appropriate details, then click "Continue".
Your name is the name that you want your email recipients to see in the "From" section of the email.
Email address is your full email address, and password is - you guessed it! - the password for your email account.
If all things have gone according to plan, Thunderbird should have been able to determine the correct settings for your account to use. If not, you can find the correct settings to use in our email client settings page. Select from either IMAP or POP, and then hit "Done". You can skip the next step and continue to the end of this guide.
If Thunderbird was unable to automatically select the correct configuration settings, you are able to select the "Manual config" option, and enter the settings as shown in the following images.
Manually configuring POP mail access
Manually configuring IMAP mail access
After entering the above server details, hit the "Re-test" button to make sure that everything is correct. Once you're complete hit "Done", then it's time to send some mail!
And that's a wrap!
You should now be able to send and recieve emails using your hosted email account. If you experience any difficulty, please double check the email connection settings that you are using, and if you still can't quite get it to work don't hesitate to open a support ticket and we'll do our best to help out!
