This post is to inform you of the upcoming changes to the Australian online space, affecting the way you register, renew and manage Australian ccTLDs.
A new registry operator
AusRegistry has been the company at the core of the .au domain space for the last number of years, however it has been decided that Afilias will take over operations of .au domains.
ccTLDs in the .au space will no longer be managed by AusRegistry, and instead, are being transitioned over to Afilias from July 01, 2018.
Flexible registration periods
From the 1st July 2018, all Australian ccTLDs will be available for registration and renewal for your choice of 1-5 years.
Change of Registrants will initially only be available for a 1-year re-registration upon launch, however this may be updated in the coming weeks to offer your choice of 1-5 years.
Planned service outage
Downtime at the registry level has be scheduled by Afilias between 8:00am Saturday the 30th of June and 8:00pm Sunday, the 1st of July (AEST).
During this time, pending renewals and Change of Registrants may be affected.
Domain transfers will not be processed for a minimum of 48 hours after the transfer to Afilias is complete, and new registrations and renewals will not be available during the scheduled downtime.
Users will be unable to update nameservers during this time, however existing DNS will remain intact and existing records and hosting services should not be affected.
Domain names that are due for deletion will not be purged from the registry until at least 14 days after this transition process is complete.
Live websites will not be affected
Any existing .au domains, and the hosting services attached to them will not be affected during this transitional phase.
